Holy Fifty Days – Thomas Sunday
St. Thomas doubted that Jesus resurrected even though he was a faithful disciple and one willing to die with Christ (cf. John 11). When doubt comes into our minds, we are not to ignore it or let such a thought prevail. Here are THREE ways to dispel doubt:
- Look above, remember His love
Hebrews 12:1-2à let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
- Fixing our eyes on Jesus means to PRAY and bring our doubts to God is prayer.
- Remembering how much we cost Godà1 Corinth 6:20- “For you were bought at a price”
- Judas versus St. Peter & St. Thomas What was the main difference?
- Move forward
- When Christ appeared to the disciples while Thomas was with them, He called him to move forward and come to Him in order to believe.
- This “coming to touch Jesus’ wounds” is an ACTIVE step towards discovering Christ and finding answers!
- Progress in your spiritual life otherwise you are regressing.
- Follow the flock
- Thomas’ problem was that he was not with the rest of the disciples the first time Jesus appeared to them!
- Song of songs 1:8àIf you do not know, O fairest among women, Follow in the footsteps of the flock.
- Recycle
- Lord, I’m going green…recycle my past for the benefit of others. God wants us to use the past to help others. Share how God has helped you overcome your doubt and start again.
- 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
