Faithful care
The quick story
St. Joseph was a carpenter and a righteous man. That means he wanted to live in a way that pleased God. God chose him to be betrothed to St. Mary, and he cared for her and the Lord Jesus.
Joseph travelled with them from Bethlehem to Egypt. The journey brought hard work and difficulties, but he continued to care for them. The Coptic Synaxarium remembers his faithful service and tells us that the Lord Jesus was with him when he departed in peace.

PART 1
A carpenter entrusted with a family
Joseph worked as a carpenter. The Coptic Synaxarium calls him righteous: a person who sought to please God. He was entrusted with caring for St. Mary.
His place in the story of salvation was a life of faithful care for her and the Lord Jesus.
PART 2
Chosen to care for Mary
When Mary's time in the Temple came to an end, the priests looked for someone who could care for her. The Coptic account tells of a dove resting on Joseph's staff as a sign of God's choice.
Joseph welcomed this responsibility. Mary came into his care before Gabriel announced Christ's birth.
PART 3
The journey to Egypt
Joseph travelled with Mary and Jesus from Bethlehem to Egypt. The Synaxarium remembers both the work and the hardships he faced along the way.
He continued caring for them through that difficult journey. His story shows us a kind of service carried out through responsibility and steady care.
PART 4
Resting in the Lord's care
The Coptic account says that Jesus was present when Joseph's earthly life ended. Joseph departed in peace, and the Church remembers him on Abib 26.
After a life spent caring for Jesus and Mary, he was himself in the Lord's loving care.
